He belongs to the generation of the young oud artists who explored the various abilities of the instrument through his approach from a different point of view. This concept was embodied in the pieces he composed for the Tunisian Symphonic Orchestra and presented on the occasion of the International Symphonic Festival EL DJEM, Tunisia.
He is the founder and the director of the Tunisian orchestra “Ensemble de Musique Méditerranéenne’, which experiments in finding new forms of expression of the Tunisian Music, in relation with the Arab and the Mediterranean Music. He is also the founder of the ensemble “Takht Musical de Tunis” which is specialized in the presentation of the traditional music of Tunisia as it is saved through the oral tradition. With the “Takht Musical de Tunis” and in collaboration with EN CHORDAIS, he supervised the production of a Cd with selected works of the well-known Tunisian composer Khmayis Tarnan within the series of “Great Mediterranean Composers”.
In 2006 the activities of this ensemble were enriched with the realization of a performance called “IKAAT” with the collaboration of the “Metropole Orchestra” and the National Radio of Nederland. This concert was performed under his direction on the 27th April 2006 at the Theatre Vredenburg of Utrecht and it was transmitted live by the N.P.S. radio.
In 2007, Kamel Ferjani prepared a duet with oud along with Ahmed Kalaï, which was a tribute to him. This performance with the title “Dialogue des cordes” was presented at many festivals in Tunisia and Netherlands in the Muziekcentrum Vredenburg and in Theater De Oosterpoort à Groningen respectively.
