60th DIMITRIA: DANCERS OF THE NORTH - COMMEDIA DIVINA | THE TRAGEDY OF NATURE
Organizer: 60TH DIMITRIA, DIRECTORATE OF CULTURE-TOURISM OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF THESSALONIKI IN COLLABORATION WITH THE THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
The Dancers of the North stage-transcribe Dante's journey to the three borderline destinations - Hell, Purgatory, Paradise - in the light of climate change.
The emblematic work of world literature, Dante's Commedia Divina, is a modern, chilling environmental allegory about the tragedy of nature. It is a shocking depiction of the inseparable relationship between man and nature. The poet's journey to the three Realms of the Dead of the Catholic worldview includes "touristy" descriptions of the world of the dead.
Modern communities are now feeling the environmental pressures and are looking for a way out, just as the poet is looking for a way out of the darkness. Moving from Hell, which is presented as a world of overheating, despair and ecological collapse, to Purgatory, where nature is gradually balanced and restored, he ends up in Paradise, the place of absolute harmonization and reconnection of man with the natural environment.
