60th DIMITRIA: GALACTIK ENSEMBLE - FRASQUES

“Frasques” in French means a flamboyant deviation in behaviour, a mischievous or reckless act, a mischievous joke. The word, borrowed from the Italian frasca (branch), is confusing, also referring to playful nonsense without meaning. Or is it not?
Starting from this ambiguous title, the play Frasques brings to the stage a small community of men and women who try to manage situations out of control. Everyday life —often funny, unpredictable or even cruel— becomes a source of inspiration for a narrative that incorporates adventure, lyricism and, of course, the fight for freedom.
This is what Frasques is all about, a play-ode to freedom. A masterfully deconstructed spectacle that has its roots in the circus arts, but, imbued with Western cultural multimedia influences, produces a work that touches everywhere: from Magritte's painting (La trahison des images) to revolutionary Occitan songs. The central character Frasques is impulsive, explosive, unrepeatable, he boldly disrupts the relationship between performer and audience, escapes the linear narrative and, playing freely with time and space, gives a magnificent result. Galactik Ensemble, through the adventures of their heroes, weave a performance that speaks of solidarity, perseverance, and above all, of freedom. A freedom that becomes tangible, desirable, and –most importantly– accessible, in a world where everything seems temporarily impossible.
