The iconic
Sonatas No.5 for violin and bass continuo by Arcangelo Corelli were published on January 1, 1700, marking the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century, as well as the change in style and technique from early to late Italian baroque. With this change, the foundations were laid for the transition from tropicality to pure tonality and harmony, establishing the form of the Sonata for solo instrument and bass continuo. Corelli’s
Opus 5 was very popular at that time. It was published in various parts of Europe and directly influenced composers such as Vivaldi and Bach. This concert proposes a highly original reading of the work, with the four-string violoncello piccolo in the role of soloist and a rich and sophisticated bass continuo. The guest of the ensemble of outstanding Greek musicians is one of Europe’s most renowned and active lutists, the Italian Emanuele Forni.
