PART II
L. v. Beethoven: Octet for two oboes, two clarinets, two horns and two bassoons
in E-flat major
This programme is based on music for wind instruments that Beethoven wrote in the early years of his life. The concert begins with the Trio for piano, flute and bassoon in G major, a work discovered after the composer’s death. It is believed that he composed it when he was around the age of fifteen and it shows the influence of Mozart. The next piece that will be heard is the Sextet for Winds that he wrote in 1796, which has four movements and is based on Viennese classical motifs. In the second part, the Octet for oboes, clarinets, horns, and bassoons will be performed. Beethoven wrote this work in Bonn in 1792, before establishing himself as a composer in Vienna. In 1795 he reworked it and expanded it into his first String Quintet.
