TSSO AT THE CONCERT HALL

THE SEA

T.C.H. IN COOPERATION WITH THESSALONIKI STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

F. Mendelssohn: Hebrides, opus 26
E. Chausson: Poème de l’amour et de la mer, opus 19
C. Debussy: La Mer
N. Skalotas: Excerpt from the folk ballet The Sea
The sea is the focus of works of today’s concert. Mendelssohn describes an adventurous journey to a “desert island” in his Hebrides, with the sea’s wild beauty taking one’s breath away, while Chausson sees it in a more romantic light in his renowned Poem of love and the sea. Debussy’s symphonic poem The Sea describes the movements of the waves through the unique perspective and liveliness of impressionism. Skalkotas, lastly, in his folk ballet Sea, brings to life a variety of images from it, drawing from rich Greek folk tradition.
