The final opera of Donizetti’s ‘Tudor Trilogy’ focuses on Queen Elisabeth I, now an adult, who is forced to sign the death warrant of the nobleman she loves. Sir David McVicar, who produced the première performances of Anna Bolena and Maria Stuarda at the MET, returns to stage the final part of the Trilogy. Renowned bel canto soprano Sondra Radvanovsky will perform as Elisabeth I in Roberto Devereux, having previously sung the same role in Anna Bolena and Maria Stuarda in the course of a single season, a rare feat made famous by Beverly Sills in the 1970s and not attempted on a New York stage since.
