The Thessaloniki Concert Hall is proud to present the Syrinx Woodwind Trio from Romania. The trio formed in 1982, all of its members having graduated from the “Ciprian Porumbescu” Academy of Music in Bucharest in that year. They now enjoy performances all over Europe and have established themselves abroad by winning no less than six international prizes.
The trio consists of Dorel Baicu (flute), Dorin Gliga (oboe) and Pavel Ionescu (bassoon). Their colourful programme will open with a suite in A minor by Telemann. This is a typical Baroque Dance Suite originally for solo flute, basso continuo and strings. Mozart wrote several Serenades, many of which are not the simple single movement pieces that the name might suggest, but rather complex and difficult works that are sometimes scored for unusual combinations of instruments.
The Syrinx Trio have chosen his Serenade no. 2 after which they will play the third of Haydn’s famous London Trios. After interval we hear Florilegiu (a collection of literary extracts), by the contemporary Romanian composer Liviu Danceanu. To end the concert, another piece of contemporary Romanian music, Concertino, by the multi award-winning composer, Viorel Munteanu.
