Dimitris Tigkas

Violone
Dimitris Tigkas was born in Patras, Greece. He studied modern double bass with Evgeny Bratushka at the Municipal Music School of Volos and then with Vasilis Papavasiliou at the Hellenic Music School in Athens, where he graduated. In the same year he graduated from the University of Athens with a Bachelor's in Musicology.
In September 2006 he moved to Amsterdam where he studied the violone (historical double bass) with Maggie Urquhart and obtained both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Since 2010, he lives in Athens and works as a freelance musician with many orchestras, chamber music ensembles and music for theatre projects. He is member of the early music ensembles: Latinitas Nostra, Ex Silentio and Armonia Atenea, as well as the Medea Electronique Collective.
