1st FESTIVAL OF BAROQUE MUSIC: LES GOÛTS RÉUNIS

STYLUS PHANTASTICUS - GERMAN AND AUSTRIAN MUSIC FOR VIOLIN AND BASSO CONTINUO

T.C.H.
The programme begins by presenting the first violin school of Germany and Austria, with music that is representative of the Stylus Phantasticus. A style that flourished in Italy and soon thereafter in Germany in the 17th century and survived until the apex of German style baroque music in the mid 18th century, a style that was formed by assimilating influences both from Italian and French music.
It includes sonates of Austrian and German composers and violin virtuosi Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, Johann Joseph Vilsmayr, Johann Jakob Walther, and Johann Georg Pisendel, along with works by great composers of the baroque era, Georg Friedrich Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach.
