Constantinople lyre
He was born in Athens. He studied classical guitar, while taking lessons in Byzantine music and demotic (folk) song, initially at Simon Karas’ school and then at I. Tsiamoulis’. In 1988 he started studying kementsé and lauta (politico laouto) with Ross Daly and a year later he joined his group “Labyrinth”.
In the last 20 years he has been working with composers, musicians and singers from Greece and abroad in various musical schemes, participating in recordings and concerts. Among others, he has collaborated with: Domna Samiou, Chronis Aidonidis, Ara Dinkjian, Loreena McKennitt, Evanthia Remboutsika, Derya Türkan. He has taken care of the production of enough digital disks of mainly traditional music, like all the productions of the Domna Samiou Greek Folk Music Association in the last ten years, as well as two disks of the Centre of Asia Minor Studies (Songs from Cappadocia, Songs from Samothrace).
His personal discography comprises the Cd’s: Lyre (“FM Records”, 1996), Letter from Istanbul (“Golden Horn Productions”, 2003), Like a swallow (“Cantini”, 2007) and Constantinopolitan zygia (“MBI”, 2010).
In 2000 he was honored by the Ministry of Culture with the State Prize of Young Artists “Melina Merkouri”. He is a lecturer of the Department of Musical Science and Art of the University of Macedonia.
