Dimitris Panagoulias was born in 1974 in Thessaloniki and studied at the Department of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
At the age of 15 he began playing the drums with various rock groups and since 1997 he is studying Greek traditional music and percussions with Dimitris Barbas at the Greek Branch of Agostini School of Rhythm and rhythmic idioms of Latin America. He attended seminars with Misirli Ahmet and Levent Yildirim. He has also studied Byzantine music with Panagiotis Drakopoulos and Sakis Axenopoulos, oud with Ziad Rajab and Kyriakos Tapakis, tabla and Indian rhythmic with Sakis Laios.
He plays regularly with Dilek Koç, with the groups “Loxandra”, “Ziad Rajab Ensemble”, “Anoihti Thalassa”, “Embeirotechnes”. He has also collaborated with the music groups «Şikâyet», «Yeden», «Contrabando», and various other Greeks and foreign artists such as Nikos Kipourgos, Chico Freeman, Kostas Magginas, Vaggelis Kontopoulos, Yiannis Yakoumakis, Costas Vomvolos, Dimitris Nikoloudis, David Lynch, Peter Salchev, Nikos and Yasemi Saragoudas, Christos Zotos, Grigoris Kapsalis, Christos Tsiamoulis, Solon Lekas, Glykeria, Panagiotis Lalezas, Kariofillis Doitsidis, Ziad Rajab, Talat, Dimitris Barbas, Markos Skoulios, Stavros Pazarentzis, Yiorgos Psaltis, Manos Ahalinotopoulos, Panagiotis Drakopoulos, Kostas Bravakis, Filippos Tsalahouris, Sophia Emfietzi and many others. He has participated in musical events and music and dance festivals in Greece, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Cyprus and Serbia.
He has appeared in the National Theatre of Northern Greece’s performances Twelfth Night (direction Evis Gavriilidis), An Italian Straw Hat (direction N. Nikolaou), From Euripides’ Bacchae (direction T. Ratzos) and Loxandra (direction S. Hatzakis) as a member of the group “Loxandra”.
He has participated in the recordings of the discs Loxandra (Ziad Rajab) and Katoptra (Ross Daly), as well as in recordings of “Embeirotechnes”, Sakis Xenoudis, Costas Bravakis, Dimitris Nikoloudis. Along with Yiorgos Psaltis he has arranged Dilek Koç most recent disc.
He teaches at various conservatories and private schools.
