MY MUSEUM: THE MUSEUM AS THE LIVING ROOM OF SOCIETY
TCH IN COLLABORATION WITH MOMus, THE BRITISH COUNCIL, THE BENAKI MUSEUM & THE AMERICAN CONSULATE GENERAL IN THESSALONIKI
As the way in which they attract the public is changing, museums are becoming living cultural and participatory organisations. This is nothing new. For over two decades, cultural organisations have been confronted by issues of relevance, participation and action. This active involvement is not concerned only with the issue of visitor numbers and ticket receipts but is a central issue for the functioning of the museum as a social agent and partner.
Within this prism, and building upon the work of previous conferences, this year’s conference on museums will examine how the model of the “Third Place” (beyond the home and the workplace) can be applied to museums and other cultural organisations.
