TSSO AT THE CONCERT HALL

PLANETS

TSSO IN COOPERATION WITH TCH & THE THESSALONIKI FILM FESTIVAL
A concert for the whole family
G. Holst: The Planets, Orchestral suite, Op. 32
The Planets is an orchestral suite by Holst, written between 1914 and 1916. At that time Holst had become interested in astrology. He omitted Earth from this work and instead wrote seven orchestral pieces, as he initially called them, for the remaining planets of our solar system, with the character of each piece symbolising something different. Mars / Ares is the Bringer of War and Venus / Aphrodite is the Bringer of Peace. Mercury / Hermes is the Winged Messenger and Jupiter / Zeus is the Bringer of Jollity. Saturn / Cronos is the Bringer of Old Age, Uranus / Caelus is the Magician and Neptune is the Mystic. It should be recalled that Pluto had not yet been discovered.
The new educational offering from the TSSO is brought to a close with a concert for the whole family, as part of the Thessaloniki Film Festival.
