OPERA GALA

T.C.H.
The Thessaloniki Concert Hall Opera Gala is proud to host the finest arias and duets from the most popular operas by famous composers

The programme includes Ariadne and Theseus’ masterful duet from Handel’s baroque opera Arianna in Creta and the lure of Greek mythology through Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, with Orfeo’s moving aria and his explosive duet with Euridice. Well-known duets from Mozart’s operas will also be performed, such as that of Sifare and Aspasia in Mitridate, Re di Ponto and of Count Almaviva and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, while the evening acquires a more Italian flavour with Donizetti’s opera Linda di Chamounix and Rossini’s Tancredi and Il Barbiere di Siviglia, with the much loved duet between Rosina and Figaro. The audience will travel to exotic ancient Ceylan with Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles and to ancient Egypt with pharaoh Akhenaten’s hymn to sun god Aten in Philip Glass’s opera Akhnaten. Romance is represented by Verdi’s comic opera Falstaff, Violetta’s formidable aria in La Traviata and Gounod’s French opera Faust, while the evening culminates with the Champagne Ensemble from the popular operetta Die Fledermaus, by the king of waltz, Johann Strauss.
