MUSIC OF THE ORIENT: GREAT ARAB VIRTUOSI

TCH - ''EN CHORDAIS''

Program co-ordinator: Kyriakos Kalaitzidis
Oud and kanoun are the two most cherished musical instruments in the Arab world and are commonly used in the whole Mediterranean from ancient times. The concert gives us the unique chance to enjoy two excellent virtuosi in these instruments, who are among the most important representatives of today’s musical trends.
Imane Homsy is considered one of the greatest musicians of Lebanon and one of the most important of the Arab world. Evolving the traditional way of playing the kanun, she has developed a technique that utilizes all ten fingers. The last 12 years she is a permanent associate of Fairuz and teaches at the Conservatoire of Beirut.
Joseph Tawadros lives in Sidney and tours at the most important scenes of the world, giving solo concerts and playing together with the greatest jazz artists (Jack DeJohnette, John Patitucci, John Abercrombie). He plays with a refreshing spirit for oud and the Arab art.
