Imane Homsy

Kanoun
Imane Homsy is considered to be the most important qanun virtuoso of the Arab World. She was born in 1967 and she is a graduate of the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Beirut, where she teaches qanun, and also a graduate of Architecture of the Lebanese Academy of Arts. She has studied Classic Arab Music, while at the same time, by experiencing with western music, she has developed her own technique in qanun playing with ten fingers, without abandoning the common way of playing by using two fingers.
She has participated in many International festivals in Europe, Asia and Africa both as a soloist as well as a member of the Eastern Music Orchestra of Conservatory. She has also performed in many concerts and recordings of Arabic music with very exceptional artists. Her first album with title “Imane Homsy, Seigneur Kanoun (Lord Qanun)” released on 2008 from Institut du Monde Arabe (I.M.A.) and distributed by Harmunia Mundi.
She collaborates with Fairuz since 1999, with which her music ensemble she has performed together in numerous international concerts (Tunisia, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Beirut, USA, France etc.)
In Greece, she became widely known by her collaborations with the music ensemble “Εn Chordais”: Musical July, Epidaurus (2001), Thessaloniki Concert Hall (2002, 2004 &2006), Mediterranean Music Forum (Porto Carras 2005), B. & M. Theocharakis Foundation (2009). She has also participated in two concerts of “Εn Chordais” in Brussels (2003), Constantinople (2005 & 2006) and in Prusa (2007). Imane Homsy has also an active involvement in the MediMuses Project: she has participated –representing Lebanon- in the International Qanun Meeting that took place in Beirut (2002). Moreover, she was a member of the Eastern Music Ensemble of the National Lebanese Conservatory that performed in Thessaloniki (2003) with the Egyptian Takht Abou Dagher, while as a Visiting Professor held master classes for qanun in Thessaloniki, Constantinople and Amman.
