Notis Mavroudis

Apart from teaching, Notis Mavroudis (b. 1945) has dynamically participated in every guitar event taking place in Greece for five decades. He studied the guitar at the Greek National Conservatoire under Dimitris Fambas, as well as under José Tomás in Spain in 1969. As a soloist, a guitar instructor and an art song composer he has given numerous recitals and concerts in Greece and abroad.
In 1965 he was awarded the 1st prize at the Thessaloniki Song Festival, in 1969 he was awarded the 1st prize at the Milan International Guitar Competition and, finally, in 1990 he received an accolade at the Lisbon International Children’s Song Competition. The same year, the Embassy of Brazil in Greece presented him with the Heitor Villa-Lobos Award for his contribution to the diffusion of the Brazilian composer’s work in Greece.
His presence in the music world has been constant and enduring. He has composed for the theatre and the cinema, written for newspapers and magazines and collaborated with various radio stations. He started teaching at the Milan Municipal Music School in 1969 and has continued doing so in various music schools in Greece –mostly in Athens- since 1975. He was in charge of a number of state institutions and has been the Art Director of many festivals. Between 1983 and 1987 he was the Editor and Chief of TaR magazine – the only guitar magazine at the time– and organized notable concerts with renowned guitarists.
His prolific discography (30 personal albums) includes works for the classical guitar, duets, as well as compositions and songs for popular vocalists. In 2000 he started the “Cafe de l'Art” guitar duet record series consisting of six records and including cover versions and recordings from different music genres. In 2005 and 2006 he was presented with the Arion Award for the music he composed for films, as well as for his adaptations for songs by Tsitsanis - Vamvakaris.
In 2002 he founded the “Corifeo” music label of “Eros music” company, which is distinguished for its exceptional alternative productions of various musical genres. He was also the label’s Art director until 2006. In 2007 he was in charge of selecting the music broadcast in the stations of the Athens Metro network. In February 2008, he published his first book on music and culture, named “Ihologimata” (Ηχολογήματα, Nefeli publishing company, 2008).
Since October 2006, he has been running the TaR online magazine (http://www.tar.gr), as well as the TaR internet radio station (http://www.tar-radio.com).
