15th CONTEMPORARY MUSIC WORKSHOP
Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL IN COLLABORATION WITH THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC STUDIES OF THE ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI
The Contemporary Music Workshop, a collaboration between the School of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, reaches its 15th edition this year. With both artistic and educational aims, the Workshop presents new works in world premiere each year, created on commission by emerging Greek composers —undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as graduates of university music departments and leading conservatories in Greece. The Workshop contributes not only to broadening the participants’ experience and knowledge, but also to the creation of an original Greek chamber music repertoire. Alongside the concert at which the works are presented to the public, the Workshop includes close collaboration between composers and musicians, with guidance from faculty members of the School of Music Studies, a general rehearsal open to the public and a presentation and analysis of the works by the composers in the form of an open colloquium.
This year’s programme spans a wide range of contemporary compositional and aesthetic trends and movements, with works written for various combinations drawn from an ensemble of young musicians consisting of two violins, viola, cello, bass clarinet and piano.
11.00-13.30 General rehearsal (open to the public)
