WIND MUSIC FESTIVAL

AEOLOS WOODWIND QUINTET
LIGHT THROUGH DARKENESS: A MUSICAL JOURNEY THROUGH HOLY WEEK

Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
The Aeolos Woodwind Quintet returns to the Thessaloniki Concert Hall as part of the Wind Instrument Festival. Comprising distinguished wind soloists and members of Greek symphony orchestras, the ensemble seeks to promote the rich international and Greek repertoire, highlight works by Greek composers and expand the repertoire through commissions of new works.
The concert programme brings together works from different periods that resonate with the reflection, memory and mourning of Holy Week, moving from inner anguish towards redemption. The dramatic intensity of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the dark lyricism of Anton Reicha prepare the ground for the sacred, almost ritualistic moments of the chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach. The deeply elegiac expression of Pēteris Vasks and the distinctly Greek, personal tone of the Moirologia by Giorgos Koumentakis complete a musical journey which, through silence and sorrow, seeks the light of consolation.
