TSSO AT THE CONCERT HALL

NEW YEAR’S CONCERT: PRINCESS SISSI

Organizer: THESSALONIKI STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA IN COLLABORATION WITH THE THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL

The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall welcome 2026 with a distinctly Viennese flair, in a programme rich in operetta and waltz. At the heart of the evening lies the celebrated operetta Sissy by Fritz Kreisler, inspired by the beloved Princess Sissy of the Bavarian royal House of Wittelsbach, later Empress Elisabeth of Austria—the longest-reigning empress in the country’s history. Through an imaginative “Greek lesson”, inspired by her encounters with the Greek writer and poet Konstantinos Christomanos, the audience is invited to discover lesser-known aspects of her unconventional personality, her profound love for the arts and for Greece, as well as the qualities that made the “melancholy princess” so deeply beloved around the world. The programme also features works by Franz Lehár and the “King of the Waltz”, Johann Strauss II.
