ALEXANDER PAPADIAMANTIS: “TO CHRIST IN THE CASTLE”

The musical performance To Christ in the Castle is based on the short story of the same name by Alexandros Papadiamantis. After the warm reception and great success of the premiere in Boston, the performance is presented in Thessaloniki. Vassiliki Nevrokopli adapted a condensed form of the short story in iambic fifteen-syllable rhyme, faithfully rendering the style and language of Papadiamantis. Kyriakos Kalaitzidis composed original music and set the lyrics to music, utilizing the timbres and melodies of the Byzantine octave. This is a special musical performance for young and old, which takes us on a journey to 18^th-century Skiathos and sensitively highlights the faith, simplicity and solidarity of ordinary people, while vividly capturing the Greek ethos and Orthodox spirit of the Christmas holiday.
