CHRISTOFOROS CHRISTOFIS: THE TYRANT AND THE DAUGHTER

Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
The End of Childhood
(A Comedy Tragedy on the Borders of Fairy Tales)

Christoforos Christofis's work focuses on a very important era of the 20th century. It focuses on a shocking personality such as that of Joseph Stalin and his close relatives. The author sheds light on the last period of the Russian-Georgian leader who ruled the former Soviet Union from the interwar period in 1924 to 1953. A controversial and fatal personality, he was one of the victors of World War II but also a ruthless exterminator of his opponents.
The author focuses more on the existential than the political, through the characters of his pampered children Svetlana and Vassilis, as well as the author Ehrenburg and others who surrounded him in the last phase of his life. Past and present … Childhood and psychological syndromes, truths and lies, fantasies in unfulfilled souls faced with one of the most cruel and complex eras of the 20th century. Humour, sometimes hilarious and sometimes bitter, is everywhere in the phrases of the experienced playwright and director who was recently awarded the “Karolos Koun” dramaturgy award.

Important note about the staging of the work: The celebration of the centenary of the birth of the great Russian composer, Dmitri Shostakovich, who happened to be living and composing at that time and for whom Stalin had a strange admiration!
