WORKS FOR SAXOPHONE & STRING QUARTET

The concert program includes works written over the last twenty years. The program structure follows a multi-stylistic approach, as the specific compositions reflect a variety of expressive directions and incorporate influences from various musical traditions. This diversity manifests itself through explorations within the aesthetic framework of modernism, the renegotiation of modality, the reassessment of the neotonic perception, as well as the use of borrowed musical elements from traditional music of Brazil, Costa Rica, Hungary, the USA and Greece, regions from which the composers originate and are active. The works, as a whole, are virtuosic and highlight the sonic and tonal possibilities of the instruments for which they have been written, while at the same time underlining the virtuosic flexibility of the saxophone soloist and the members of the string quartet.
