60th DIMITRIA: G. C. MENOTTI - L’ AMOUR À TROIS / F. POULENC - LA VOIX HUMAINE
Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL & GREEK NATIONAL OPERA, AS PART OF THE 60TH DIMITRIA
Two works that have as their common denominator a woman and her addiction to the telephone. The comic opera The Telephone or L’amour à trois (1947) concerns a young woman who - like many of us today - spends the whole day with a telephone in her hand. In the lyrical tragedy La Voix Humaine (1959) we have a woman who “hangs” on the receiver, desperately trying to prolong something that has already ended.
Connecting these two works through a protagonist, Lucy, we follow the evolution of her addiction and explore the deeper causes that push people to depend on technology and beyond.
