1st YMCA INTERNATIONAL CHOIR COMPETITION 'TASOS PAPPAS' 2024

Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL IN COLLABORATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION & CULTURE OF YMCA
The Choir Competition “Tasos Pappas” is dedicated to the memory of Tasos Pappas (1926-1970). The concept of holding a competition in his name was born after a concert tribute to his work, organized in his hometown, Florina, in December 2017 by the renowned pianist Domna Evnouchidou, one of his students at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki.
Tasos Pappas dedicated his short life to the promotion of the concept of the choir, making tireless efforts both for the perfect preparation of the choirs and for the artistic and distinctive harmonization of the voices. The few works he left behind due to his untimely death are a sample of great compositional talent and, at the same time, provide the material for later orchestrations.
He died young, without realizing his great dream of establishing a second National Opera in Thessaloniki.
