JOHANNES BRAHMS: A GERMAN REQUIEM

TSSO IN COOPERATION WITH TCH

J. Brahms                  A German Requiem, Op. 45
Brahms composed the German Requiem between 1857 and 1868 following the deaths of his close friend and mentor Robert Schumann and his mother. Despite the title of Requiem it has no connection to the Funeral Service of the Roman Catholic Church but is a personal comment by the genius composer on the tragic nature of death and the hope for eternal life. The text is based on from fragments from the Holy Scriptures. The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra welcomes the Bremen Cathedral Choir, which will unite on stage with the Mixed Choir of Thessaloniki, Anna Stylianaki and Tassis Christoyannis, under the experienced baton of Υannis Pouspourikas.
