THESSALONIKI STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

EASTER CONCERT

IN COOPERATION WITH THE THESSALONIKI STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

S. Michailidis: Two Byzantine Sketches for strings
F. Poulenc: Stabat Mater, FP 148
G. Fauré: Requiem in D Minor, Op. 48
It has been said that his Requiem does not express the fear of death, but Fauré himself has stated that he saw death as a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than as a painful experience.
Many composers have been inspired by the Stabat Mater, hymn that describes the lament of the Virgin Mary as she stands before the crucified Jesus. Poulenc initially intended to write a Requiem, until he found himself in front of a similar image of the Virgin Mary and changed his mind.
