59th DIMITRIA: NOMADICS
Organizer: 59th DIMITRIA, DIRECTORATE OF CULTURE-TOURISM OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF THESSALONIKI IN COLLABORATION WITH THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
In Nomadics, eight dancers explore ways of giving voice to nature through a conception that seeks to communicate with the audience and expand their consciousness through a hike that precedes the performance. In this way, the audience gets to know the dancers and the dancers get to know their audience, creating bonds. Together, they traverse part of nature, the city, and finally, the stage up until the performance starts. The performers depict how nature looks back at man and suffers his footsteps. They embody how it reclaims its place and reciprocates. This is done by an inadequate –human— but also infectious and capricious imagination. Nomadics allows dancers to become a (passing) raging landscape. Sometimes, they are trees, and sometimes they are grass. This constant transformation results in beauty as well as friction: there is tension in the air. But as physics shows us, friction eventually leads to warmth, slowing down or change. Then again, through struggle, the dancers in Nomadics seek connection, both with nature and each other. Along the way, the particular environmental techno music composition is in intense symbiosis with the dance.
