CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT

IN COOPERATION WITH THE REGION OF CENTRAL MACEDONIA & THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF THESSALONIKI

E. Bloch: Nigun (Improvisation)
From the Baal Shem suite for violin and piano
L. v. Beethoven: Trio in B-Flat Major ( the "Archduke"), Op. 97
                           for piano, violin, and cello
The concert of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki for the Remembrance Day for the Greek-Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust, includes works by Ernest Bloch and Ludwig van Beethoven.
E. Bloch's Nigun for violin and piano is part of the Baal Shem trilogy (Three Pictures of Chassidic Life), which is based on the roots of Eastern European Jews and is an epitome of musical expression of the Jewish spirit.
This is followed by Beethoven's majestic Archduke Trio for piano, violin and cello. The composition is more of a symphonic work for three musicians than a trio, and is a work of supreme humanitarian symbolism.
This concert brings together artists from all over Europe to pay tribute to the memory of the 6,000,000 Jewish victims of Nazism, which include 67,000 Greek Jews, notably 50,000 of whom were from Thessaloniki.
