THE STARS OF MUSIC & FILM: A TRIBUTE TO CATERINA

In 1962, the last film of Caterina Valente was shown in Greece. Since then and for 53 years, the most popular post-war ‘German’ actress, singer and dancer has been absent from our country.
On Monday, 7 March, a big-screen cinematic tribute to Valente will take place, featuring excerpts from the films Bonjour Kathrin (1955), Love, Dance and 1000 Songs (1955), Du bist Musik (1956), Casino de Paris (1957), Das einfache Mädchen (1957), Und abends in die Scala (1958), Hier bin ich - hier bleib' ich (1958), Du Bist Wunderbar (1959), Snow White and the Seven Jugglers (1962).
The actress, now 84 years old, became known through her successful songs, such as Malagueña, her first global hit. Although born in Paris to Italian parents, many consider her to be German, as her films and most of her hit songs are in German. She has recorded two compositions by Mimis Plessas in Greek.
