For the first time since Enrico Caruso starred in this opera(1916), the ΜΕΤ will present Bizet’s rich, melodic romance titled The Pearl Fishers (Les Pêcheurs de Perles), directed by Penny Woolcock, who made her début at the MET by staging Doctor Atomic by John Adams. Gianandrea Noseda conducts a cast starring Diana Damrau as the beautiful priestess Leïla. Matthew Polenzani and Mariusz Kwiecień star as Nadir and Zurga, the two pearl fishers whose friendship is tested by their rivalry for Leïla's heart; ‘Au fond du temple saint’ is one of the best-known duets in the operatic repertoire. Nicolas Testè stars as high priest Nourabad in the new production that will premiere just before the new year.
