À DEUX VIOLES ÉGALES - FRENCH AND ENGLISH MUSIC FOR TWO VIOLAS DA GAMBA French and English music for two violas da gamba
T.C.H.
Musicians Andreas Linos and François Joubert-Caillet present a programme that starts with the origins of music for two violas da gamba in England in the first half of the 17th century, with works by Tobias Hume and Matthew Locke. The programme continues by highlighting the influences and passage from this style to the characteristic style of French music for viola da gamba, with Suites for two violas by composer and virtuosos of the viola da gamba of the Court, Marin Marais, and his legendary virtuoso teacher, Monsieur de Sainte Colombe.
These works provide us with a taste of the unique and expressive sound of the viola da gamba and refined English and French taste and style in music.
