The Wind Quintet “Aeolos” and pianist George-Emmanuel Lazaridis will present for the first time in Greece Modest Mussorgsky’s iconic work Pictures at an Exhibition, transcribed for piano and wind quintet by French oboist David Walter. The new work by Kostas Tsougras, Five Fragments of Autumn, commissioned by the Wind Quintet “Aeolos” and written especially for this concert and dedicated to it, will also be performed in its first-world execution. The program includes two of the most important works for wind quintet of the twentieth century: The neoclassical Little Chamber Music (Kleine Kammermusik, Op. 24), a 1922 work by Paul Hindemith, and the atmospheric Six Bagatellen by György Ligeti, transcriptions of some of the composer’s own parts from his 1951-1953 Musica Ricercata for piano.
