Wang Huquan

Director
Wang Huquan is a National first-class director and Baritone of China National Opera House, a member of Chinese Theatre Association and China Association of Performing Arts, as well as an expert entitled to national special grants. He graduated from Vocal and Opera Department of the Central Conservatory of Music and Graduate Program of the Directing Department of the Central Academy of Drama. He has played major roles in various operas including “Sister Jiang”, “Carmen”, “The Taming of the Shrew”, “La Nozze de Figaro” and “Rigoletto”. He won the Wen Hua Performance Award issued by Ministry of Culture for his role of Ahema in “Marco Polo”.
In 2004, Wang Huquan directed “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” during the Italian Opera Week held by China National Opera House. In 2006, he was the opening ceremony General Director of the “Art on Campus” campaign sponsored by State Educational Commission, Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Finance. In 2007 and 2010, he acted as Executive Director and Stage Supervisor for the Chinese opera “Farewell My Concubine”, which brought him the Wen Hua Director Award. He was also the General Director of the National Day Evening for Ministry of Culture to celebrate the establishment of People's Republic of China in 2008 and 2010.
In 2011, He directed “Tannhaeuser” and won the Director Award in the first China Opera Festival. In 2013, He directed the Chinese opera “Hongbang Tailor”, which became one of the “selection project of five encouraging literature works” in 2014. During 2013 - 2016, he directed Wagner’s four full cycles “Der Ring des Nibelungen”, including “Die Walküre” (2013), “Siegfried” (2014), “Götterdämmerung” (2015), and “Das Rheingold” (2016). In 2017, he directed the Chinese opera “The Red Detachment of Women”. From 2008 on, He played the role as director in “Turandot” and brought it to the international stage. The opera was performed in Egypt (2008), Syria (2010), Rome (2012), Switzerland (2016), as well as Italy Puccini Festival (2015), Slovenia Ljubljana Art Festival (2015) and Hungary Budapest Spring Music Festival (2016).
