The Eternum Quartet is distinguished by its warm, richly coloured sound, seamless ensemble playing, and imaginative interpretations. Known for its inventive approach to both classical repertoire and contemporary works—especially those composed specifically for the group—the ensemble brings fresh perspective and depth to everything it performs. A special emphasis is placed on original works for saxophone quartet, which the ensemble interprets with great stylistic versatility, contributing to the growth of the repertoire and enabling the exploration of new possibilities of the saxophone.
Formed in 2017 at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, the four musicians met while studying with Prof. Daniel Gauthier. In 2022, they completed their chamber music studies under Han-An Liu, also in Cologne. They have since received artistic guidance from renowned figures such as Heime Müller, Georg Klütsch, Friedemann Berger, Koryun Asatryan, Vogler Quartett, and Barnabás Kelemen.
The Eternum Quartet performs at major venues across Germany, including the Konzerthaus Berlin, Cologne Philharmonie, Duisburg Philharmonie, the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche in the Munich Residenz, and the Beethoven House in Bonn. The ensemble also appears regularly in other European countries.
In 2023, the quartet released its debut album on the GENUIN label, featuring works by Johann Christian Bach, Alexander Glazunov, and two commissioned pieces by Konstantia Gourzi (OPUS KLASSIK 2023 – Composer of the Year) and Helena Cánovas i Parés.
The ensemble has received second prize at the 2021 August Everding Competition for Saxophone Quartets in Munich. The quartet was supported by foundations such as Yehudi Menuhin – Live Music Now and Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation. As a scholarship ensemble of Jeunesses Musicales Germany, the Eternum Quartet is among the selected ensembles supported by this renowned institution in their artistic development.
