Daniel Filipescu
Daniel Filipescu is a graduate of the National University of Music Bucharest, where he studied under Lecturer Eleonora Enăchescu, class of 1998. He also completed postgraduate studies in 1999, with a dissertation titled Mozartian Roles within the Baritone Voice Typology. Additionally, he studied at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz under Professor Claudia Eder, and at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan with Luciana Serra.
Since 1994, he has given a series of recitals in Bucharest, including at the “George Enescu” Hall of the National University of Music, the “Mihail Jora” Concert Hall of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company, Sala Dalles, the Russian Embassy in Bucharest, and other venues.
His first operatic collaboration was with the late opera director Hero Lupescu in a production of Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, where he performed the role of Guglielmo. This marked the beginning of many roles and collaborations leading up to 2002, when Daniel Filipescu became a soloist at the Bucharest National Opera. Besides his activity at the Bucharest Opera, he has also worked with the “Oleg Danovski” National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Constanța and participated in the Les Temps Musicaux Festival in Nice, performing in Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini at Théâtre de Verdure in Ramatuelle (France), in collaboration with the National Radio Orchestra (conductor: Amaury du Closel, 2003). He has also taken part in the International Festival in Sibenik, Croatia (2003), and in a tour with Brașov Opera in Italy, with performances of La Traviata, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and Tosca (2004).
In 2006, he became the first Romanian soloist to sing the role of Dorval in Il burbero di buon cuore by Vicente Martín y Soler at Theater Rudolstadt (Germany), in a production directed by Georges Delnon and conducted by Oliver Weder.
In 2012, Daniel Filipescu participated in The Magic of Music, a concert organized by the Romanian Embassy in Kuwait, and made his debut in the role of Farfuridi in Dan Dediu’s opera O scrisoare pierdută. In 2013, he collaborated with the Berliner Philharmoniker in Requiem for Auschwitz by Roger Moreno-Rathgeb (conductor: Riccardo M. Sahiti).
Daniel Filipescu has also worked with Walt Disney on Romanian dubbing for animated films, voicing Victor in The Hunchback of Notre-Dame I and II, and participating in Frozen and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.
He has appeared in the following films: Toni Erdmann - as the DaVinci Waiter (Oscar-nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, 2017), See You Soon - as Elise’s Father, Killing Eyes - as the Piano Player.
He has also featured in commercials for Porsche, Dacia, Tille, Germanos, Rom Chocolate, BancPost, and EMAG Genius (as the Psychologist and Meteoritzi), as well as in Robin Schulz’s music video All We Got, playing the Coach.
