Piotr Więcław

Cello
Piotr Więcław graduated in cello with honors from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk in the class of Prof. Krzysztof Sperski and Tadeusz Samerek. He is a laureate of national and international competitions, including Third Prize in the Macroregional Competition for Cello and Double Bass in Augustów, the National Cello Competition in Wrocław, and the International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in Gdańsk, as well as a finalist of the Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition in Łódź. During his studies, he performed across Europe as principal cellist of the Baltic Youth Philharmonic under Kristjan Järvi. From 2009 to 2010, he was associate principal cellist of the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana in Florence conducted by Nicola Paszkowski. He has refined his skills in masterclasses with renowned cellists including Michael Flaksman, Enrico Bronzi, Mario Brunello, Catalin Ilea, and Stefan Popov. Since May 2011, he has been principal cellist of the Gorzów Philharmonic. In February 2013, he performed Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major and in November 2014 Litany de Sanctis Martyribus by Paweł Łukaszewski. In recent seasons, he has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in major concert events, including the Baltic Neopolis Virtuosi series in Kołobrzeg (2016), the program "Great Quartets of the 20th Century" in Gorzów Wielkopolski (2019), and the Reich/Glass program featuring Steve Reich's Different Trains and Philip Glass's String Quartet No. 3 (2019). He is currently a member of the Baltic Neopolis Quartet and actively performs contemporary repertoire in Poland and abroad.
