Job ter Haar

Job ter Haar studied cello at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with René van Ast, Lidewij Scheifes, and Anner Bijlsma. During and after his studies he developed a particular interest in chamber music and historical performance. He has performed with ensembles including Musica ad Rhenum, the Ives Ensemble, and the Van Swieten Society, appearing at international concerts and festivals and contributing to many recordings. His practice-based research focuses on expressive practices of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, which led to a PhD at the Royal Academy of Music in London with a dissertation on the playing style of the nineteenth-century cellist Alfredo Piatti. In addition to his academic publications, he maintains a research blog and a video channel where he shares more informal explorations of topics in historical performance. Job ter Haar teaches cello at the Hochschule der Künste in Bern and artistic research at Codarts Rotterdam.
