CASSANDRA DIMOPOULOU – ELDA LARO: “FRAGMENTS OF A WOMAN’S LIFE”

Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
Staged recital

This recital traces the inner life of a woman through the musical and poetic world of the German Romantic Lied. From the awakening of youthful longing to the serenity of mature reflection, these songs portray a profoundly human journey of emotion and transformation.
The song cycle Liederkreis, Op. 39 by Robert Schumann, on poems by Joseph von Eichendorff, opens with a sense of restlessness and admiration—a young soul searching for belonging. The cycle Wesendonck Lieder by Richard Wagner, on texts by Mathilde Wesendonck, express deep intimacy and the spiritual devotion of love in fulfilment. Finally, the cycle Fünf Lieder, Op. 15 by Richard Strauss bring a quiet, melancholic introspection—a return to the self.
The theatrical approach to the recital creates an atmosphere shaped by the poetry and music of the period, while also “translating” the poetic texts into images, thus bypassing the barrier of language.
Presented shortly after International Women’s Day, the recital pays tribute both to the female voice and to the timeless language of the Romantic spirit—a song cycle of life itself.
