RENAUD CAPUÇON & GUILLAUME BELLOM
Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
Renaud Capuçon (violin) and Guillaume Bellom (piano) are artists of the very highest level, celebrated both as soloists and as deeply insightful chamber musicians. Their shared dedication to the refined nuances and large-scale architecture of chamber music has earned them widespread acclaim in France and abroad. Their interpretation of Brahms’s violin sonatas, composed between 1878 and 1888, embraces the deep emotional landscape of this great Romantic master in his most productive period. These three works not only represent a decisive rethinking of the violin-piano sonata after Beethoven, but also include subtle musical references and personal allusions. Most notably, the Sonata in G major, Op. 78 incorporates quotations from Brahms’s songs Regenlied and Nachklang, which are widely understood to be commemorative to the son of Brahms’ close friend Clara Schumann. Across all three sonatas, listeners encounter a broad emotional spectrum from inward lyricism and tenderness to dramatic intensity and intellectual rigor, revealing Brahms at his most personal and expressive.
