MARIA PALASKA: MELODIA MEDITERRANEA

Soprano Maria Palaska, whose artistic journey began in Thessaloniki and who is now based in Germany, joins internationally acclaimed musicians Lee Santana on vihuela, Andreas Nebl on accordion and Ilonka Heilingloh on piano for a programme of art songs inspired by the musical traditions of the Mediterranean. Folk melodies and traditional songs still heard today in Italy, Greece and Spain are reimagined through the lens of 20th- and 21st-century composers, taking us from Tuscany to Epirus and from Catalonia to the Sephardic communities of Thessaloniki. Cultures intertwine and the boundaries between language and music dissolve in a unique musical journey.
