Konstantinos Katsaras

Bass
He was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1975. He studied Advanced Theory of Music as well as obtaining a diploma in classical singing (A. Tsantalos), classical guitar (F. Baxes) and a diploma in melodramatic art at the “Civic” and “Macedonian” Conservatories of Thessaloniki. He completed his studies at the “Conservatorio G. Verdi” of Milan (D. Menicucci), at the “Accademia di Belle Arti Tadni” of Bergamo (I. Farina) and at the “Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano” (Vocal chamber music and Operatic repertoire – L. Gorla). He has also studied with P. Venturi, F. Corelli and is continuing to study with M.S. Moreno and B. Giaiotti. He has been attending  master classes of classical guitar with G. Reichenbach, D. Russell, H. Käppel and C. Trepat.
He won first prize in the song contest “Città di Pistoia 2004” – Italy. Following his debut performance in 2000 as Commendatore in Don Giovanni in Milan, he performed roles in the operas: Die Zauberflöte, Aida, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Tosca, Die Walkür, Rigoletto, La Boheme, Nabucco, Salome, Elektra, Otello, Madama Butterfly, Un Ballo in Maschera, Andrea Chenier, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Gianni Schicchi, La Traviata, Anatoli (M. Kalomoiris), Don Giovanni, Requiem (A. Mozart, G. Verdi), Agios Dimitrios (N. Astrinidis), Messa op. 86 (L.V. Beethoven), Szenen aus Goethe’s Faust (R. Schumann) among others, as well as performing recitals in numerous Italian cities. He was also a protagonist in the first production of F. Carlone and B. Brecht’s opera Dansen in Milan, playing one of only two roles.
He has worked with more than twenty-five orchestras and theaters including the Opera of Thessaloniki, Greek National Opera, Thessaloniki Concert Hall, “Teatro Comunale” di Vicenza, “Teatro Nuovo” di Mirandola, “Teatro Comunale” di Pisa, “Teatro Alfieri” di Asti, “Teatro Sociale” di Rovigo, Megaron – Athens Concert Hall, Sala G.Verdi – Conservatorio di Milano, “Athens Festival” – Odeon of Herodes Atticus, “Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese”, “Fondazione Arturo Toscanini” and Auditorium BPL – Lodi.
He has shared a stage with singers such as N. Martinucci, V. Chernov, C. Studer, R. Scotto, A. Baltsa, A. Agache, N. Miricioiu, A. Cupido; with conductors including B. Aprea, M. Panni, R. Tolomelli, D. Savic, M. Caldi, V. Fithetzis, G. Lorenzo, L. Karitinos, J. Arnell, N. Abbassi, N. Athineos, A. Arigoni, A. Brena, K. Dourgaryan, D. Mazzola, P. Marcarini; and with directors such as B. Tomassi, D. Kaegi, M. Corradi, N. Petropoulos, M. Hampe, P.E. Fourny, M. Sprefico, P. Kartalof, M. Znaniecky, S. Evaggelatos.
He has collaborated closely with the internationally renowned baritone Leo Nucci, performing a series of concerts including the Christmas Gala with the “Ensamble Strumentale Salotto 800”, the concert dedicated to Verdi, and the concert with the orchestra and choir of “Arena Di Verona” under the direction of Julian Kovatchev.
Since 2007, he has been artistic director at a number of recognised conservatories in Greece.
He also studied philosophy at the State University of Milan.
