THE TRIAL OF THEODOROS KOLOKOTRONIS

The Thessaloniki Concert Hall presents, in collaboration with the Hellenic Criminal Bar Association and the Hellenic Lawyers Association e-Themis, the play by M. Reppas and Th. Papathanasiou, The Trial of Theodoros Kolokotronis, directed by S. Karagiannis. This initiative aims to bring forth the historical, political and legal significance of the trial of Th. Kolokotronis and D. Plapoutas who were accused of conspiracy against the King. This was the first “major” trial of modern Greece, which took place in the Vouleutikon in Nafplio and lasted six weeks. The trial offers a timeless reflection on the physiognomy of the modern Greek state, the divisive political passions, the role of foreign powers, and the interference of political power in the delivery of justice. The theatrical performance highlights the power of judicial discourse and free conscience while at the same time spreading the message of unity in the long path toward national integration.
