WORKSHOP: CULTURAL HERITAGE SCHOOL 2

Organizer: MINISTRY OF CULTURE, US EMBASSY IN ATHENS & GREEK SECTION OF ICOM IN COLLABORATION WITH THE THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
The Ministry of Culture, the US Embassy in Athens and the Greek National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) are co-organizing a second workshop with the title “Cultural Heritage School”, which will take place at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall on February 8 and 9, 2024. The workshop will include Greek and foreign experts (see attached program). The languages of the seminar will be Greek and English.
The introductory session of the Workshop will include a presentation of the digital tools of the Ministry of Culture for the management and protection of movable and immovable monuments.
Subsequently, the Workshop will be structured into two main thematic modules.
The first module, held with the support of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, deals with climate change and its impact on cultural heritage. More specifically, the climate risks for cultural heritage will be analyzed, as well as the indicators used for risk identification. The methodology for assessing the vulnerability of archaeological sites, historic sites and monuments to the direct and indirect impacts of climate change will be presented in detail, and reference will be made to the development of adaptation plans. In the context of the same thematic module, the participants will be given the opportunity to draw up, with appropriate interdisciplinary support, an adaptation plan to climate change and its impacts on a selected archaeological site in Greece.
The second module deals with the impact of climate change on museums and the ways how to deal with it.
The Workshop is expected to be attended by approximately 65 participants, cultural heritage managers, and other persons from Greece and other countries in the wider region of SE Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.
