ZOLTÁN KODÁLY YEAR - CELEBRATION CONCERT

T.C.H.
2017 marks the 135th anniversary of the birth and 50th anniversary of the death of great Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist and pedagogue Zoltán Kodály (1882-1967). This gave us the opportunity to create a Hungarian music programme, with the composer’s work as the point of focus.
The works selected highlight the influence of Hungarian folk music on his works and his conscious effort to create a new Hungarian school of music, using the ‘pure source’ of tradition as the raw material.
This concert could not leave out the pieces of Béla Bartók, who shared his journey and his ideas both in ethnomusicological explorations and in the creation of New Hungarian Music!
The programme of Hungarian composers also includes one of the most important composers of our times, György Kurtág. His pieces for solo soprano on the poetry of Attila József highlight the melodic nature of the Hungarian language, and the melancholy aspect of Hungarian poetry.
