STARS OF MUSIC & CINEMA: HOMAGE TO LIZA MINNELLI

IN COOPERATION WITH THE THESSALONIKI FRIENDS OF MUSIC ASSOCIATION
1972 was Liza Minnelli’s year. She won an Academy Award for her impressive appearance in Cabaret and held a concert that was broadcast on television that received 4 Emmys. Daughter of Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli, Liza - not Lisa - first appeared in films at the age of 3, in the last scene of the musical In The Good Old Summertime (1949), beside her mother and Van Johnson. After that, she appeared in 25 films and is one of the few artists to have received an Academy Award, an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony.
This hour long concert, with the title Liza with a Z, was lost, but not forgotten, for years, in a crate at the singer’s home.  After the efforts of a producer, the programme was turned into a DVD a few years ago and we will have the joy of enjoying it, presented by journalist Lefteris Kongalidis. The event is part of the educational programme of the Thessaloniki Friends of Music Association.
Directed and Choreographed by Bob Fosse, with music and lyrics by John Nader and Fred Ebb.
