MUSIC & MOVIE STARS: TRIBUTE TO CARMEN MIRANDA
T.C.H. - THESSALONIKI FRIENDS OF MUSIC SOCIETY
Carmen Miranda, who at the age of 15 worked in a shop selling women’s hats, is still the most popular Brazilian singer outside of Brazil.
Her first recording was Não Vá Sim’bora (1929), but her first major success came with Pra Você Gostar de Mim the following year. In 1939 she travelled to the USA, where she soon became the second highest-paid artist in Hollywood.
Carmen Miranda starred in 14 movies and a museum was built in her honour in Rio de Janeiro.
The programme includes excerpts from all her films and a preface by journalist Lefteris Kogkalidis, whose archive is the source of all the material presented.
