ZIYA AZAZI: DERVISH

The Turkish dervish Ziya Azazi creates amazing solo choreographies with various variations, always based on and influenced by Sufi dance.
Always experimenting with new trends and alternative choreographies through traditional Sufi dancing, Ziya Azazi has created a stunning choreography for his solo show Dervish, which has been performed across the globe. The show is considered an artistic benchmark, since it is the first time the mystical Sufi culture has been translated into a modern language.
It is composed in 2 parts, Azab and Dervish in progress.
In the first part the Dervish searches, learns, agonises and finally discovers the fundamental truths of life and creation. In the second part he enjoys the fruits of his - often painful - quest, and through dance, expresses his ecstasy and gratitude for all the knowledge he has acquired.
The show is accompanied by a recital of the main tenets of Sufi philosophy, to which Azazi dances in masterful harmony.
