Gene Kelly (1912-1996) was an actor, dancer, singer, choreographer and director who began his career as a Broadway dancer in 1938 and embarked on his glorious career in film in 1942. He was one of the most innovative, pioneering dancers and choreographers in Hollywood, winning the hearts of the public and critics from his very first appearance and reaching the pinnacle of his success in 1952 when he starred in two immortal films - An American in Paris and Singin’ in the Rain. However, his most important work as a film director was the 1969 version of Hello, Dolly!
